Florence, SC   - The Senior Citizens Association (SCA) in Florence County received a $25,000 grant from Meals on Wheels America.  SCA is proud to be a member of the Meals on Wheels America Program.

Vulnerable seniors are at the greatest risk amid COVID-19. Local Meals on Wheels programs are on the front lines every day, focused on doing all they can to keep older Americans safe and nourished in communities across the country. SCA has served and delivered over 51,462 frozen and shelf stable meals throughout Florence County thus far.  A new survey conducted by Meals on Wheels America finds that nearly all local Meals on Wheels programs are experiencing increased demand; with four in five programs reporting that new meal requests have doubled since March 1, when concerns over COVID-19 and social distancing measures began taking hold.

SCA will use the grant to purchase a larger freezer to store frozen meals, purchase more PPE materials for staff, and purchase additional meals.  If you would like to make a donation to our MOW program visit:   https://www.seniorcitizensassociation.com/donate or mail your donations to Senior Citizens Association in Florence County, 600 Senior Way, Florence SC 29505. Your support of our seniors is needed now more than ever.   Many of our seniors here in Florence are lonely, isolated, and have no other option.  The COVID 19 Pandemic has made a bleak situation almost unbearable for many of our local seniors.  South Carolina ranks in the top ten for food insecurity for seniors in the nation.   Help us to help our seniors.  For additional information call us at 843.669.6761.
